Jowee Omicil celebrates Sankara at the Jazz Festival in Porquerolles
At United Souls , we love artists who embody freedom, creativity, and commitment. After being spotted wearing our Fela Kuti t-shirt during the sound checks at Les Suds festival in Arles , then wearing the Lumumba t-shirt designed by Marie-Claire Laffaire at New Morning , saxophonist Jowee Omicil has once again shown his support for our artistic and human approach.
This time, it was on the stage of the Jazz à Porquerolles festival, filmed by Arte Concert , that he appeared wearing our t-shirt with the image of Thomas Sankara , an original creation by Joy Hanoun for United Souls.
Jowee Omicil, a music that is inhabited and without borders
Haitian-Canadian, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and outstanding improviser, Jowee Omicil is renowned for his ability to break down musical boundaries. First introduced to the public by his role as a saxophonist in the Netflix series The Eddy , he explores a blend of jazz, informed by gospel, Afro-Haitian rhythms, hip-hop, and a deep spirituality.

“Half jazzman, half voodoo priest, Jowee Omicil bewitches the Jazz à Porquerolles festival with a spiritual and festive maelstrom combining jazz, gospel, Afro-Haitian rhythms and hip-hop.”
Filmed on July 12, 2025 , this passage on the island confirmed the magnetic energy of an unclassifiable artist, accompanied by Jendah Manga (bass) , Yoann Danier (drums) , Arnaud Dolmen (drums) and Jonathan Jurion (piano) . Together, they delivered a rare, powerful and inhabited moment.
