DJ Pö and United Souls: a connection between sounds and style

When I met DJ Pö, it was at the festival Climax at Darwin Eco-Système, a unique venue located on the right bank of Bordeaux. This former military barracks, now rehabilitated as a third place, has become a veritable meeting point for art, music, ecology, and gastronomy enthusiasts. Between skateboarders, green economy entrepreneurs, street art enthusiasts, and electronic music fans, Darwin brings together an incredible diversity of profiles.

If you pass through Bordeaux, don't miss visiting this place, especially the boutique Club Sauvage , where you can leave with our creations United Souls . ;-)

An instant connection to the Climax Festival

When editing “Africa, cradle of the future” of the Climax festival, where I was invited as a committed brand and partner of the festival, I had the immense pleasure of discovering the explosive set of the collective Nyege Nyege , originally from Kampala, Uganda. DJ Pö, a member of this collective, delivered an Afrocentric electro performance that literally transported me. It was a true revelation, a musical experience where dancing became cathartic.

His mix, combining kuduro, dancehall, and supercharged footwork, had me digging the dancefloor like never before. Following this event, I published a post on Instagram by tagging DJ Pö. Our first exchanges via private messages created a real connection. I promised to bring her to Toulouse, where I live.

A year later, the stars aligned: thanks to my recommendations to my friend Yann Dabiz, it was programmed at La Vadrouille Country Festival . This was the beginning of a wonderful musical and human adventure. Since then, DJ Pö has become a regular fixture on the Toulouse scene, particularly at Rio Loco Festival and at the feminist festival Girls Don't Cry , where she has been a guest several times. Every time she comes to Toulouse, it's always a pleasure for me to give her United Souls t-shirts. And believe me, she wears them proudly!

United Souls around the world

Whether in Kampala, Paris, São Paulo, or London, DJ Pö represents our brand with a heartwarming elegance and passion. But she doesn't keep it all to herself. True to her generosity, she shares our gifts with members of the Nyege Nyege collective. For example, Derek, a founding member of the collective, proudly displays his t-shirt. James Baldwin , a United Souls creation by the artist Camille LaForcenée . Meanwhile, Marlène, the booker for the Nyege Nyege Festival, poses enthusiastically in her t-shirt. Lumumba Pop Art , the fruit of our collaboration with the artist Fred Ebami , aka Ebami Warohl.

As DJ Pö so aptly puts it: "United Souls is one of the few brands that I care about. Quality clothing, an approach that highlights our Afro-descendant figures in struggle."

A multi-talented artist

French-Ghanaian DJ, producer, and singer DJ Pö captivates with her Afrocentric sets, building musical bridges between Luanda, Kingston, Accra, and São Paulo. She blends kuduro, dancehall, bouyon, and cumbia with unique creativity. In 2023, she released “Cociage” , a solo album where she explores dark and vocal sounds, contrasting with the energy of her DJ sets.

DJ Pö's favorite t-shirt

A little anecdote to finish: among the t-shirts United Souls that DJ Pö wears on stage and in his videos, his favorite remains the one representing Miriam Makeba , a creation by the artist Amandine Szczepaniak . This t-shirt, which she has owned for several years, even accompanies her during her yoga sessions. Although the design eventually faded over time, it has become her collector's t-shirt, full of memories and symbols. To top off this article, a video features DJ Pö performing micro-dance scenes to a soundtrack produced for the occasion. She proudly displays several t-shirts United Souls , proof that music and fashion can come together to build bridges between cultures.

As DJ Pö and United Souls like to say: “Music is a vector of universality between people.”
