In 1789, it was the day privileges were abolished in France, marking a decisive step toward a better distribution of wealth between the nobility, the clergy, and the Third Estate. In 1983, it was also the day Thomas Sankara came to power in Burkina Faso, symbolizing a revolution in favor of equality and social justice.
