THE THEORIST OF FEMINISM
SIMONE DE BEAUVOIR 1908-1986 FRANCE
Simone de Beauvoir was a philosopher, writer, and feminist theorist. Before receiving the Prix Goncourt in 1954, this committed woman of letters became a leading figure in feminism in 1949 when she published The Second Sex, a philosophical essay in which she asserted: “Whether it is a question of a race, a caste, a class, or a sex reduced to an inferior condition, the processes of justification are the same.”
