Artistic and Friendly Encounter with DJ Pö Beda

When I first met DJ Pö, it was at the Climax Festival at Darwin Eco-Système, a unique space on the right bank of Bordeaux. This former military barracks, now transformed into a cultural hub, has become a meeting point for art, music, ecology, and gastronomy enthusiasts. Skaters, green economy entrepreneurs, street art lovers, and electronic music fans all converge here, creating an incredible blend of diverse profiles. If you ever visit Bordeaux, make sure to explore this spot, especially the Club Sauvage shop, where you can snag some of our United Souls creations. ;-)

Instant Connection at the Climax Festival

During the "Africa, Cradle of the Future" edition of the Climax Festival, where I participated as a brand partner, I had the immense pleasure of discovering an electrifying set by the Nyege Nyege collective from Kampala, Uganda. DJ Pö, a member of this collective, delivered an Afrocentric electro performance that blew me away. It was a revelation—a musical experience where dance became cathartic.

Her mix, combining kuduro, dancehall, and high-energy footwork, had me "digging the dancefloor" like never before. Following the event, I tagged DJ Pö in an Instagram post, which sparked a warm connection. We began chatting, and I promised to bring her to Toulouse, where I live.

A year later, the stars aligned: thanks to my recommendation to my friend Yann Dabiz, she was booked for the Festival Champêtre de La Vadrouille, marking the start of a beautiful musical and human adventure.

Since then, DJ Pö has become a regular figure on Toulouse stages, including the Rio Loco Festival and the feminist Girls Don’t Cry Festival, where she has been invited several times. Every time she visits Toulouse, it’s always a pleasure to gift her United Souls t-shirts. And trust me, she wears them proudly!

United Souls Around the World

Whether in Kampala, Paris, São Paulo, or London, DJ Pö represents our brand with elegance and passion that warms the heart. But she doesn’t keep everything to herself. True to her generous nature, she shares our gifts with members of the Nyege Nyege collective. For instance, Derek, a founding member of the collective, proudly wears his James Baldwin t-shirt, a United Souls creation designed by Camille LaForcenée. Meanwhile, Marlène, the Nyege Nyege Festival’s booker, enthusiastically showcases her Lumumba Pop Art t-shirt, a collaboration with artist Fred Ebami, also known as EbamiWarohl.

As DJ Pö puts it, "United Souls is one of the rare brands close to my heart—high-quality clothes with a mission to spotlight our Afro-descendant icons of struggle."

A Multifaceted Artist

A Franco-Ghanaian DJ, producer, and singer, DJ Pö captivates audiences with her Afrocentric sets, building musical bridges between Luanda, Kingston, Accra, and São Paulo. She blends kuduro, dancehall, bouyon, and cumbia with unparalleled creativity.

In 2023, she released "Cociage", a solo album where she explored darker, vocal-driven sounds, contrasting with the vibrant energy of her DJ sets.

DJ Pö’s Favorite T-shirt

Here’s a fun anecdote to wrap up: among the United Souls t-shirts DJ Pö rocks on stage and in her videos, her all-time favorite is the one featuring Miriam Makeba, a design by artist Amandine Szczepaniak. She’s had this t-shirt for years, and it even accompanies her during yoga sessions. Although the print has faded over time, it has become a collector’s item, brimming with memories and symbolism. To top it off, we’ve created a video showcasing DJ Pö dancing in various United Souls t-shirts to a track produced especially for the occasion. It’s proof that music and fashion can come together to build bridges between cultures.

As DJ Pö and United Souls love to say: "Music is a universal connector between people."
