Commemoration of Mahmoud Darwish: Poet of Exile, Resistance, and Peace
On August 9, we commemorate the passing of Mahmoud Darwish, a Palestinian poet honored in the pantheon of the socially committed brand, United Souls. Darwish’s words have inspired generations, making him a symbol of exile, resistance, and the quest for peace. His poems continue to resonate today, reminding us of the importance of memory and the fight for justice.
Among his many quotes, these stand out to us:
"We suffer from an incurable malady called hope."
"We will be a people if we choose to be."
Darwish’s words embody the indomitable spirit of the Palestinian people and their aspiration for a free and dignified existence.
In this dark time, we cannot overlook the suffering of the Palestinian people, who are subjected to what is referred to as "genocide" by the apartheid regime of Benjamin Netanyahu and his warmongering accomplices within the international community. The same world, currently distracted by the Olympic Games, seems to ignore the pain and agony of a nation. It is crucial to remember that the Palestinian people, oppressed today, bear no responsibility for the atrocities of the past committed against the Jewish people in the West.
In a spirit of solidarity, we are proud to present the poetic drawing by artist Marie-Claire Laffaire, honoring Mahmoud Darwish, accompanied by his quote: "We will be a people if we choose to be."
Mahmoud Darwish may rest in peace, but his legacy lives on. Like millions of global citizens, United Souls stands with the Palestinian people, despite threats from corrupt governments and the intimidation attempts by powerful Zionist lobbies. We will stand with Palestine every day.
